01How long do anaerobic infections run?
Usually 7 to 10 days on the oral step, after intravenous metronidazole for most serious infections. Bone and joint, lower respiratory tract, and endocardium infections may need more days than that usual window. Indicated surgery still belongs with the tablets.
The adult oral milligram is 7.5 mg/kg every six hours, about 500 mg for a 70 kg adult, with a 4 g cap in 24 hours. In a mixed infection a second antimicrobial covers the aerobes. Duration is not the eight-hour half-life. Leftover drug after the last tablet is on how long Flagyl lasts.
02Can you repeat a course the next week?
For trichomoniasis, if a second course is required, the label wants four to six weeks between courses and a fresh confirmation that the organism is still there. Total and differential leukocyte counts belong before and after that re-treatment. The partner plan is checked again if reinfection is the reason the first calendar failed.
Do not start a leftover bottle on day eight because symptoms hung on. The clinician who wrote the first calendar writes the next one. See the metronidazole shelf.
03How long is trichomoniasis on the US tablet label?
Two calendars. One-day treatment is 2 g of FLAGYL, as a single dose or as 1 g twice that same day. The seven-day course is 250 mg three times daily for seven consecutive days. Follow the current US PI for the indication on the order. Male treatment is individualized the same way.
The writer picks one calendar. Single-dose treatment can help when seven days will not be finished, especially if the swallow is supervised. A seven-day course can cover the stretch while a partner is also treated. The label compares smear and symptom clearance only in qualitative language. No percentage is attached here.
04How long is bacterial vaginosis usually written?
Seven days at 500 mg twice daily is a common written course when that indication is on the order. Name the indication. Do not borrow a 2 g trichomoniasis day for BV because a search page mixed the two. The 500 mg tablet this shelf locks is the piece that course counts twice a day for those seven days.
The milligram question for other infections sits on how much metronidazole. The eight-hour half-life does not shorten those seven swallow days.
05How many days is amebiasis?
Adults: 5 to 10 days. Acute intestinal amebiasis is 750 mg three times daily for that stretch. Amebic liver abscess is 500 mg or 750 mg three times daily for 5 to 10 days. Tablets do not replace drainage of an abscess when pus has to come out. Bactericidal concentrations have been found in pus from hepatic abscesses.
Children: 10 days at 35 to 50 mg/kg per 24 hours, split into three oral doses. That is the pediatric use the US tablet label has established. Other labelled infections do not have an established pediatric tablet course.
06When is the single 2 g day the written choice?
When the clinician wants one supervised swallow rather than twenty-one 250 mg tablets. The 2 g day still has a partner plan. It is still contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy for trichomoniasis. Peak after 2,000 mg sat near 40 mcg/mL in the labelled work. Four 500 mg tablets can make that 2 g day.
Later in pregnancy, if treatment is required and alternatives failed, the one-day course is not used. It drives higher serum levels that reach the fetus. The seven-day 250 mg line is the other labelled option.
